The Danger of Obesity

Obesity is a serious matter, especially regarding teenagers. It is characterized by the accumulation of an excessive amount of fatty or adipose tissue. Obesity is measured using a parameter called Body Mass Index (BMI), a measure of body fat based on height and weight. Obesity is a chronic disease which poses serious health risk to the health of an individual. A person is considered obese when the total body weight’s minimum ten percent more than the recommended weight for the body structure and height. Usually a person gets obese when they consume more calories than what the body burns.
The Risk of being obese
Obesity can cause many major problems. Obesity is associated with more than 30 medical conditions, and scientific evidence has established a strong relationship with at least 15 of those conditions. It is also linked to a range of life-threatening conditions such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Obesity is a strong risk factor for several urinary symptoms after pregnancy. One percent of obese people can have that fat because of health reasons, as obesity can be caused due to few medical disorders.
Being an obese, teenagers are more prone to get emotional problems, they develop low self esteem. They get into depression, obsessive compulsion disorder and anxiety. Everyone wants to have friends but sometimes the obese teen feels isolated and all alone. Self motivation is extremely necessary in losing weight.
Causes of Obesity
Obesity is commonly caused by poor diet or eating habits; eating too many foods that are high in fat. Lack of exercise plays a big role as well. If you have eaten a lot of foods that are high in calories, you should do some activities to burn them, other those calories will turn into fats. Other factors may include diabetes, hypoglycemia, emotional tension and as simple as the love to eat. When both parents are obese, most likely, their children will become obese.
The best remedy for obesity is good lifestyle, diet, and physical exercise.
