Heart Attack

heart-attackHeart attack is one of the leading causes of death today. Heart attack occurs when blood flow to a section of the heart muscle were blocked. The section of heart muscles becomes damages from lack of oxygen and begins to die if the flow of the blood isn’t restored immediately. If the clot becomes large enough, it can mostly or completely block the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the part of the heart muscle fed by the artery.

Smoking is one of the major cause of heart attack because smoking damages the heart and blood vessels. Smoking speeds up the process of atherosclerosis (Atherosclerosis is a condition in which the arteries become hard and clogged) by damaging the cells lining the blood vessels and heart. Smoking also increases the risk of blood clots because of atherosclerosis and it also causes the blood platelets to clump together.
